ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
The stringent environmental requirements of the National Environmental Preservation Co. “BeeA’h” are intended to protect human health and the environment from the risks posed by hazardous waste, according to the vision of the National Environmental Awareness and Sustainable Development Program “Towards a well-educated society and positive practices to ensure the protection of the environment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”.
BeeA’h hazardous waste management system is unique and involves a logical sequence of procedures beginning with waste identification, assessment and classification and following through to reception, processing and finally disposal.
The process of evaluation of waste type is complex and is based on RCER and relevant US EPA Federal Codes of Regulations. The waste after proper identification and classification is temporarily stored prior to treatment or disposal using appropriate containers in well protected areas complying with the national and international regulations.
Various processes such as Chemical Oxidation, Neutralization, Precipitation, Stabilization and Encapsulation are employed to alter the characteristics or composition of hazardous waste. The most common type of disposal facility is a landfill where non-liquid industrial and hazardous wastes are disposed of in carefully constructed cells designed to protect groundwater and surface water resources.
High temperature Thermal Treatment Units (Incinerators) using controlled combustion are used to destroy toxic organic constituents in hazardous waste and reduce the volume of waste that needs to be disposed.
